Animal Farm

A farm is taken over by its overworked, mistreated animals. With flaming idealism and stirring slogans, they set out to create a paradise of progress, justice, and equality. Thus the stage is set for one of the most telling satiric fables ever penned –a razor-edged fairy tale for grown-ups that records the evolution from revolution against tyranny to a totalitarianism just as terrible.

When Animal Farm was first published, Stalinist Russia was seen as its target. Today it is devastatingly clear that wherever and whenever freedom is attacked, under whatever banner, the cutting clarity and savage comedy of George Orwell’s masterpiece have a meaning and message still ferociously fresh.

“All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.” ― George Orwell, Animal Farm

A Thousand Splendid Suns

A Thousand Splendid Suns is a breathtaking story set against the volatile events of Afghanistan's last thirty years—from the Soviet invasion to the reign of the Taliban to post-Taliban rebuilding—that puts the violence, fear, hope, and faith of this country in intimate, human terms. It is a tale of two generations of characters brought jarringly together by the tragic sweep of war, where personal lives—the struggle to survive, raise a family, find happiness—are inextricable from the history playing out around them.

Propelled by the same storytelling instinct that made The Kite Runner a beloved classic, A Thousand Splendid Suns is at once a remarkable chronicle of three decades of Afghan history and a deeply moving account of family and friendship. It is a striking, heart-wrenching novel of an unforgiving time, an unlikely friendship, and an indestructible love—a stunning accomplishment.

“Marriage can wait, education cannot.” ― Khaled Hosseini, A Thousand Splendid Suns

During the quarantine, I decided to participate in a reading challenge. The challenge was reading one book per week. And I have to say it has been helping me a lot. As we all know reading is the road to a successful life. But other than the fact that reading helps us become a better version of ourselves, this challenge has personally helped me with self-discipline and time management. It has helped me get rid of my procrastination and has pushed me to read more and also explore other books and genres. Generally, I am glad that I took part in this challenge as it has helped me in improving myself.

I had always wanted to read more books. Although I didn't complete the challenge and finish my book within a week most of the time, reading comes easily to me now. This challenge was an awesome opportunity that pushed me to make reading a habit .

The reading challenges have pushed me to read and explore multiple books in a challenging, yet enjoyable and exciting way. It was the perfect platform to meet my goal of finishing a book per week while being part of a community that shared the same aim which was encouraging and motivating. At the end of the week, not only do I expand my knowledge, but I also get to explore and find other interesting books chosen by fellow participating readers and hear their thoughts about their reading in the chat group.

When I first participated in the challenge, it was only for fun, but the more I dove in to it the more I learnt. Every since my first participation, managing my time and preparing a daily schedule became my habit, so as to finish my book in a week. In addition to this, the fact that the challenge was open for any type of books moved me to explore disparate books from what I usually read. And most of all, I had a lot of fun participating in the challenge while improving myself. Also thanks for hosting such a remarkable challenge. Keep the good work!!😁

It was a fun challenge. It gave me the incentive to read the books I have always wanted to read over my school break, and seeing others with 100% read was encourage and helped me finish my share of readings as well. And every book was a rewarding experience, its own world, and so many lessons that I didn't know if I know now because of this challenge. it always feels good to tick off a book from my list as read.

The first thing I wanted to do when school closed was to read. This reading challenge has kept me accountable to read at least a book per week. I also got book suggestions that became my favorites. Through this challenge I've been able to tick dozens of books of my ever growing reading list.
